Whenever I'm out chasing storms I'm always looking for unique and interesting scenes to photograph because the eastern plains of Colorado is filled with hidden gems on those old dirt roads. I came across this scene just after I filmed a tornado that touched down near the small town of Keenesburg, Colorado on 6-19-2018. After the tornado receded I packed up my camera and video equipment and made chase of the storm hoping to catch back up to it. As I was driving, with two other Storm Chasers in tow, I looked to my left to see this lone tree on a hill in a well manicured cornfield and I just knew I had to photograph it! I immediately hit my brakes and pulled to the side of the road to let the other two chasers behind me pass by and I proceeded to run about 300 yards into that field to capture this dreamlike scene of that lone tree framed against the stormcell I had been pursuing. This was such an unexpected pleasant surprise! This is not a composite image, it is a single image shot near...
I am a photographer originally from Ohio who relocated to Colorado in 2014 in an effort to capture the beauty of the mountainous landscape and the majesty of its incredible wildlife. In the Spring and early Summer I can be found out on the plains of eastern Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, and Wyoming in pursuit of severe storm structure and, of course, tornadoes. Hopefully you will enjoy my images half as much as I enjoyed capturing them for you. Thank you for stopping by to check out my images! P.S. - All of the wildlife images you see in my gallery were shot in the wild in it's natural habitat. Sincerely, Brian Gustafson. (720) 512-7545
