Description
On 6-19-2018 I was near the town of Keenesburg, Colorado photographing a supercell that would, within minutes, put down a bright white elephant trunk shaped tornado that would quietly sweep the tops of a golden wheat field then slowly recede back into the clouds. After the tornado receded I packed up my camera and video equipment and got back on the road to try to keep pace with the storm which was quickly moving off to the east. My chase eventually led me down a dusty old dirt road surrounded by open fields, old farms, and spectacular views of the rural landscape and the threatening storm that was hovering above it. As I continued to drive south trying to find a road to my left so I could make my way farther east I saw a lone tree on a hill in the middle of the most meticulously manicured field I had ever seen and I knew I couldn't pass up the opportunity to photograph it! I quickly hit the brakes, coming to a skidding halt, grabbed my camera and ran about 200 yards into that carpet-like field to capture the tree I had seen framed up against the supercell I was pursuing. This image is the result of that incredible circumstance. This is a single handheld shot and not a composite image. Yes, there are definitely times when dreams can become reality and, as I found out, there are times when reality can seem very much like a dream. Every time I look at this image I still can't get over the perfection of that field. I hope you like this image as much as I liked the experience of being there to capturing it.
